Mikkeli-Jukola traffic control is organised so that those arriving will be using the roads surrounding Mikkeli city. The traffic will not be directed through the city centre, even though the competition centre is located in the vicinity.
Maps PDF form .
- The base for the traffic plan comes from two major events in the past, tells the Traffic group responsible Kari Hiltunen.
- The same persons will be guiding the traffic in Mikkeli-Jukola as in the previous major events, and there will be approximately 150 persons in traffic control/guidance and parking in Mikkeli-Jukola.
Passenger car parking areas are located in six areas, and those arriving to Jukola are requested to follow the guidance directions closely. The loading of parking areas will start primarily from the competition centre outwards, so in principle those arriving earlier will be located closer to the competition centre. There are over 5000 parking spaces reserved for the event, so there is surely space for everyone available.
Arrivals from Tampere and Pori direction requested from Jyväskylä instead
Traffic from Lappeenranta and Kouvola direction will be directed through Rinnekatu -street to the parking areas of Old barracks area (at Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences) and Urpola area. Traffic from Heinola will arrive through Pitkäjärvi ramp, where there is guidance to parking areas according to the availability. Those arriving from Jyväskylä direction will be directed straight to the parking area in Karkialampi. If arriving from the north, the route is the same as for those arriving from Heinola direction (the Pitkäjärvi ramp).
The biggest traffic is expected from Heinola direction.
- In order to avoid the rush, it is highly recommended that those arriving from Tampere-Pori direction would drive through Jyväskylä to Mikkeli, states Kari Hiltunen.
- The driving time is the same as through Lahti, but one can arrive straight from Jyväskylä road to the Karkialampi parking area.
There will be bus transportation organised from the Old barracks area, Tusku and Karkialampi parking areas. The bus route from Old barracks area departs from Mikkeli city market square, so this is also a good transportation possibility for those arriving Mikkeli by train. The timetables for bus transportation can be seen on Mikkeli-Jukola website.
Bus transportation to competition centre
The bus parking is organised as in the previous Jukola events. There will be a bus stop for the buses unloading passengers close to the main gate of the horse racing track. Behind the unloading place, there will be a section for the buses staying overnight in the area. In order to avoid the traffic jams in Raviradantie -road, it is requested that these buses would not leave the competition centre for the night.
Travel trailers/caravans will be directed from Tusku ramp to the old shooting track in Siekkilä. There is no electricity in the area, but toilet facilities are available. The area will be opened on Friday, June 12, at 12 am, as the competition centre opens. The payment needs to be made upon arrival. The distance from the area to the competition centre is 700 meters.
The parking area for families with children is next to the horse racing track, close to other child care facilities. The permission for this parking area has to be requested in advance from Jukola Office. Please contact us through e-mail at
