Anniina and Emilia getting ready for their first Venla relay PDF Print E-mail
sunnuntai, 31 toukokuu 2009

15-year-old friends Emilia Mänttäri and Anniina Suhonen representing Kuopion Suunnistajat (KuoSu) are taking part to Venla for the first time.

- I have rather realistic goals for Mikkeli-Jukola; the main goal is to manage through the relay without mistakes, states Anniina modestly.

- Of course I hope for the best for me and my team, says Emilia.

Both girls participated in the Finnish Championships (long distance) in Keuruu in the spring, where finished as third and fourth. Emilia was the one to receive the bronze and Anniina was right behind her.

Emilia talks about the previous experiences, and for example the junior Tiomila in 2007 and 25-Manna in 2007 and 2008 have provided good memories. Another accomplishment to remember is the win in Kainuu Orienteering week in D12TR.

For Anniina, the success in Finnish Championships (in long distances) is the most memorable one, but one cannot forget the Finnebu samling- camp in Norway in 2007 as well as Youth Jukola 2008, where Anniina’s team to finished in the sixth position.

The teams from Kuopio will participate in Finnebu-Samling -camp in Norway this summer as well.
Anniina ja Emilia
Both Emilia and Anniina have begun to orienteer as they were only six years old. As the whole family has orienteering as a hobby, it was quite natural for Anniina to start as well.

Emilia tells her mother was the one enrolling her for an orienteering course in Vehkalahden Veikot club, and that served as the starting point.

- It is nowadays my own desire and enthusiasm that carries on, tells Anniina.

- I got excited as a youngster in Hippo-orienteering race and since then the will to win has been strong, states Emilia.

Both girls are satisfied with the activities offered by their home club, Kuopion Suunnistajat. The club has put a lot of effort especially to junior activities.

- KuoSu is a good club. There is a level according to everyone’s own aims, and the club gives support for those wishing to go forward with orienteering, Anniina ponders.

- KuoSu is fine as there are active people involved working for the best of the club. The efforts put towards the junior activities are also outstanding, Emilia concludes.

Anniina suspects Halden SK is surely tough in Jukola.

- For Venla relay, it is not so easy to say any particular team.

Emilia is certain about her favourite:

- It is Vehkalahden Veikot, for sure. But for Venla relay, I have no particular team on my mind.

Both of the girls are looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere of Mikkeli-Jukola and a fair play relay.
