Ulricehams OK won the 32. Venla relay in Mikkeli. The anchor of the team, Simone Niggli headed for her leg as first, and managed to keep the position until the end.

Niggli ran rather calmly to the finish with her team mates alongside. Ulricehams has three victories in Venla from the earlier years.

Another Swedish team, Hellas, took the second position. Tatjana Ryabkina, the anchor of Hellas, almost flied through her leg, as she was four minutes faster than Niggli. The third place was conquered by a Finnish team, Tampereen Pyrintö. The members of the team were Heidi Haapasalo, Riina Kuuselo, Saila Kinni and Anni-Maija Fincke as the anchor.

Halden SK finished as fourth, the anchor being Anne Hausken. OK Linne took the fifth place.

Ulricehams victory was not certain, as Simone Niggli ran into difficulties during the sixth control point. Niggli did not spot the control point at first, and had to go back for a while. “I was really nervous. I was so close, but I just did not see the control point”, Niggli tells. After a while she made it, and she had to run at a fast pace for the rest of the leg. “I had to fight for the rest of the time, as it was physically demanding towards the finish”.

In addition to the two more experienced orienteers in Ulricehams team, there were also two young ones.
“ I am so proud, we have a strong team”, Niggli stated gladly.
