Alpo Nisula representing Mäntän Seudun Eräpirkat, ran his very first Jukola when he was 18 years old. in 1955 in Säynäjärvi. This was the starting point for the continuous journey for Jukola, in which Alpo has participated almost every year.He has missed the relay only once and due to a valid reason only; This year is Nisula´s 53rd Jukola, and he has the fifth leg.
- Orienteering is a sports, in which you can get hooked on really easily. It is a perfect way of fitness training, in which skills are also being emphasized. It is also very interesting to see whether one can get all the tricks of course planner along the way, Nisula states.
According to Nisula, Jukola is a happening worth of staying awake the whole night for once a year.
- It is great that the experience is the same for those taking part into orienteering competition only only once a year as well as for the top orienteers.
Nisula has been a course planner for Jukola once in 1978.
- The arrangement for this year are excellent, says Nisula. The framework for the relay is excellent, spectators and competitors fit into the area very well, and it is not crowded.
