Halden IK seems to go towards the victory of Jukola during the fifth leg. The teams Finnish orienteer, Pekka Itävuo was convincing and kept the lead to Kristiansand OK in almost four minutes.
The competition of the second position became tighter, as IFK Göteborg was almost next to Kristiansand in the exchange. Kalevan Rasti was less than a minute behind Göteborg.
Last year’s winner Delta continued the rising towards the top. Oskari
Liukkonen was one of the fastest during the leg, being approximately
two minutes faster than Itävuo.
Pekka Itävuo was happy as he came to the finish. “This is kind of a dream for an orienteer. Firstly, as one has the honor to run in a team like this and secondly to start the leg from a dream position”, Itävuo said enthusiastically.
Itävuo thinks the continuos success of Halden is due to the hard work of the team. I have not seen anything similar anywhere. “The work done is of good quality, all the way from the coaches to the orienteers. And on the other hand, success also nourishes success.”
As a friend of hard rock, Itävuo was not disappointed that Jukola is at the same time as a music festival Provinssirock. “ One just has to listen to Manowar from the cd now”, laughs Itävuo.
