The Chief of Venla Course Teijo Laasanen and the Chief of Jukola Course Kai Hirvonen expressed their feelings after the relays.
Both the Venla and Jukola orienteers were taken surprised by the demanding route. Beforehand many presumed that the terrain was easier. In Venla the competition area was quite narrow and there were some forbidden areas. The challenge was to take the orienteers as far as possible to and then bring them back as fast as possible. Venla winner’s time was 4 minutes faster than the estimated time. The Chief of Route Laasanen was satisfied with the time.
Jukola’s orienteers made mistakes especially at night when it was dark. Many tried to keep fast speed and didn’t contain themselves to cool down. However Laasanen and Hirvonen received a lot of positive feedback. In Jukola the winner’s final time was about 30 minutes slower than expected.
The competition centre has received a lot of praises and people say it has been the best in the Jukola history. All the functions are close together, it is easy to enter the competition centre and the tent area is close to the competition area.
